Learned sewing at Mum's knee. Practiced drafting at Dad's side. Studied design and pattern making at the university. In my studio, I now combine these skills with a passion for sustainability, textiles and thoughtful design.
The KAREN LUKACS label is the manifestation of ideas about reusing salvage fabrics and secondhand clothing as functional fashion. Using a combination of traditional handcrafting techniques and modern design sensibility, my upcycled looks are classic, timeless and one-of-a-kind. The quality is consciously durable, as I want each piece I make to last a long time...my fingerprint on sustainability.
I've been published in "Altered Couture", "Belle Armoire", as well as local publications. The University gifted me a scholarship award for my fiber art, and my work has received national recognition and awards. My garments and bags were featured in a solo gallery show at the Art Institute of Tucson in 2010.
Each limited edition collection spurs ideas on new designs and construction techniques. It is my hope that my products are used, and loved for generations. It would be delightful to see my products age and become vintage collectibles!

Hey, Karen! I just saw that you are in Tucson! I might be there for the Gem and Mineral Show in January, so if that happens, it would be great to meet you!
