The KAREN LUKACS label is the manifestation of ideas about reusing salvage fabrics and secondhand clothing as unique source materials for functional art fashion.
Using a combination of traditional handcrafting techniques and modern design sensibility, my upcycled looks are classic, timeless and one-of-a-kind. The quality is consciously durable, as I want each piece to last a long time...my fingerprint on sustainability.
"Altered Couture", "Belle Armoire", and regional publications have highlighted my work. The University gifted me a scholarship, and my work has received national recognition and awards. My garments and bags were featured in a solo gallery show at the Art Institute of Tucson in 2010.
Each limited edition collection spurs ideas on new designs and construction techniques. It is my hope that my products are used, and loved for generations.
KAREN LUKACS textiles are limited edition collections of bags, fashion and home decor.
Rescuing discarded textiles as a sustainable resource is both an inspiration and a challenge in design. "How to create each transformed product as a couture collectible, without the item looking recycled?"
