Sapa Wide Handwoven Scarf - Threads of Peru 2

Handwoven Sapa Scarf

This handwoven sapa scarf comes to us from Threads of Peru, a not-for-profit social enterprise. Its mission is to connect the world to handmade treasures of the Andes, helping to strengthen ancient craft techniques and empower artisans.

The Sapa Wide Alpaca Scarves, woven in a gorgeous baby alpaca, are stunning accessory items for those looking to brighten up their wardrobe with a touch of Peru! Made by the community of Totora, in the luscious Sacred Valley of Peru, these scarves were created using natural dye ingredients such as the cochineal insect (red) the kaka sunkha plant (brown) and kinsa kunchu (turquoise), as well as naturally occurring shades of alpaca fibre. It is perfect to wear as a dramatically wrapped scarf or even a loosely draped baby alpaca shawl.

The name “sapa” means ‘full of design’ in Quechua and is a group of four scarves in the Quechua Collection that feature the same weaving design but in different, vibrant color combinations. The individual designs include ‘pica pica’ (Incan stairs) on the borders, and flowers and hearts in the central panel. When referring to the Quechua storytelling tradition, the artisan’s view of the world, including lakes, mountains, flowers, and Incan constructions, all which form the natural environment around them, is represented in their weaving. The heart in the centre of the weaving also signifies the love that the weaver (or the wearer!) feels for the natural environment!

The seller is paid immediately for 75% of the price. Both the seller and the buyer are notified of the purchase, receiving contact information for each other. Buyer and seller agree on what method works the best for them.

Many of our sellers are offering free shipping internationally for their products. We want all of our customers to be happy with what they get, therefore we are accepting returns for a full refund (minus cost of shipping, if applicable), no questions asked. We are attempting to provide good images and text to avoid the need for returns, but we understand that seeing images and seeing something in real life are different experiences. Items must be returned to the seller within 5 days of receipt in order to receive the refund. Once the seller receives the product (in the same condition in which it was sent), the seller notifies TAFA, they refund us and we refund the customer for the original amount.

Note: This is being run on an honor system and we will do our best to resolve any disputes in a sensible way. Our hope is that this trust will not be violated within such a wonderful community.

Purchases made outside of TAFA:

It is our hope that our customers will explore our member sites and support them with other purchases, commissions, etc. If that happens, we celebrate this relationship and do not expect any commission or further compensation.
