I am a textile artist with a special interest in creating art quilts. For much of my life I have also been a teacher – and still get a thrill from working with others, passing on what I have learned and watching people’s confidence grow. In 2015 I published my first book ‘Quilting Originals’ which seeks to help people design create their own art quilts. It is available on my website here.
I made my first quilt in 2008 and haven’t stopped since. My work develops from periods of reflection followed by experimentation with ideas and materials. I love to dye, paint, print, stitch and manipulate fabric to create surfaces which are interesting to look at. I also like to tell stories of people and places, often those that society prefers to overlook or forget. But I also like to laugh – I’m not always as serious as some of my work might make me seem.
I was born in Wales and have been fortunate enough to have lived in lots of different places – Poland, France, South Africa and New Zealand to name a few, but I presently live in rainy England. My travels have provided me with plenty of inspiration.
I am a Juried Artist Member of Studio Art Quilt Associates, and a member of a Contemporary Quilters West and the Quilters Guild of the British Isles. I exhibit my work extensively and have had pieces in many internationally juried exhibitions: SAQA My Corner of The World, Turmoil, Textile Posters, Made in Europe I & II and Wide Horizons V. I also participated in the HerStory exhibition curated by Susanne Millar Jones and the Threads of Resistance exhibition curated by The Artist Circle. My quilt La Liberté was awarded 1st prize at Quilt en Beaujolais in 2016.
