My name is Dorothy Tomalin. I am a free-motion embroidery artist based in the beautiful Cotswolds, UK. I primarily create and sell wall art, and regularly take commissions. I also produce smaller gifts and cards.
I commonly focus on birds and wildflowers in my work, and it is my aim to portray the great character and joy of the natural world. I like to create pieces which are bright, fun, and bring a smile to people’s faces, while highlighting detail in nature and bringing the outside in.
I have travelled widely and recently lived overseas for three years. I have been influenced by the huge variety of artwork and culture I have experienced in other countries, but spending three years abroad surprised me by giving me a deeper appreciation of my own country. As a result of this my subjects are usually British, in particular wild flowers and species endemic to the UK. My long term project is a series of pieces highlighting bird species on the UK Red List of conservation concern.
