Sophie Harrison is a Felt maker creating sculptural clothing and accessories inspired by her connection to nature. Her time spent living immersed in its wild beauty, inspired by the textures and colours. She feels this is so much a part of who she is now and what she tries to evoke in her art.
Her independent clothing label ELFN combines natural fibers and merino wool to create unique seamless pieces.
Having started a BA HONS in Fine Art at Bretton Hall in the 90’s, she then went on to travel the world, where she lived deeply in wild nature and then apprenticed Felt making in Switzerland with French Felt maker and Textile artist Sophie Prieur making pieces for couture designers such as Fendi , Versace and Jean Paul Gaultier. With her love for textural painting, the transition into felting was very natural and inspired her to make wall hangings and then on to create wearable art – Seamless clothing.
“I love the mystery of felt making, The ancient craft of this technique . The journey of layering wool and fibres, almost painting with the different colour wools. It as as if it creates on its own once you start the felting process, something else takes over …. a letting go to what will be.”
Sophie now lives in Somerset U.K and works from her studio at home. She sells online and in various boutiques in the U.K. She also runs workshops teaching felt in Somerset.
