Jacki Sleator

I have been interested in fashion from an early age but at school I hated dressmaking. I always wanted to have an original look but could not afford designer clothing. Eventually in 1987 I completed a part-time City & Guilds course in Fashion & Design while working full-time.

Afterwards I attended a recreational tailoring class for many years to hone my skills and learn to obtain a professional finish. I became interested in feltmaking in 2008, setting up my own business in 2010 on a part-time basis while continuing to work full-time.

I like feltmaking because the process allows me to make fabric and embellish it. Then I can turn that fabric into clothing, ensuring my own unique style. My jackets and some of my accessories are made in the round and are therefore seamless. I find the feltmaking process completely magical and unpredictable. I take my inspiration from nature, the built environment and historical costume.

I gained a teaching qualification a few years ago and now I also run workshops so that others may experience the joy of feltmaking for themselves. Please contact me if you would like me to tutor a workshop in your area.

I make one-off fine felt fashion and want others to see how versatile and lovely felt clothing can be. Commissions welcome. I am in the UK.
