Vango Art (available works for sale)
I began silk painting years ago on a trip to Club Med in Mexico. I think I was 20 years old at the time. I remember I made a scarf. I fell in love with painting on silk and it took me years to figure out how to make it work for my personality and needs and likes. For instance, I do not steam because I use paint and not dye. I just prefer it. I love the vibrancy of the colours and the fact that it is hard to get perfectly straight lines, so you have to give up some control.
I get a lot of my inspiration from travels. I paint cityscapes as well as landscapes. Often, I paint horses or other animals, especially birds and usually there is some humour involved. I enjoy complex scenes with lots of details. I began my art career painting cityscapes and I still enjoy that and I’m happy to live closer to New York City now, so I can visit more often and take photos for paintings.
I belong to Silk Painters International. And I have taught private classes for painting on silk. In the early 2000’s I demonstrated silk painting on HGTV for their show “‘It’s So Clever”.
