Nuristan, “Land of the Light” is on the Northeastern side of Afghanistan. This is mountainous region, very difficult to travel. Across the border and into Pakistan the Kohistani people share the same roots. Their garments are similar: black cotton heavily embroidered with tiny stitches and decorated with beads, buttons, seed beads, zippers, etc. Garments may often weigh several pounds or kilos.

The region was crossed by Alexander the Great. As there are many blondes in the area, they are considered to be his direct descendents. You can read more about them on Wikipedia:

It is interesting to me that the Kuchi, who live in more desert areas, have bright, eye-catching clothing, while the mountain people, also highly decorated, go for a more subdued, earthy palette. Perhaps you want to be seen in the desert, concealed in the forest?

This blouse is intricately embroidered on the front and then stitched heavily with seed bead borders. Snaps and other metal components have been incorporated into the design. The embroidery is silk, mostly cross stitched. It is large and roomy, an unusual find for a tribal garment. There are a few loose beads, some wear, the black is faded, but otherwise, the garment is in great, wearable shape.

Dimensions, measured flat across:
Shoulders: 18.5″ (47 cm)
Sleeves: 19″ (48 cm)
Outer back length: 35″ (89 cm)
Neck: 13″ (33 cm)

Buyer and seller agree on what method works the best for them.

Many of our sellers are offering free shipping internationally for their products. If they are not able to do this, the shipping cost will be determined by distance, weight and carrier, the usual logistics that go with shipping a product. Buyer and seller will communicate directly to each other about shipping logistics. The listing indicates whether this item is offering free shipping or whether shipping fees will be added on. If the item is offering free shipping, insurance is NOT included and must be paid directly to the seller.

We want all of our customers to be happy with what they get, therefore we are accepting returns for a full refund (minus cost of shipping, if applicable), no questions asked. We are attempting to provide good images and text to avoid the need for returns, but we understand that seeing images and seeing something in real life are different experiences. Items must be returned to the seller within 5 days of receipt in order to receive the refund. Once the seller receives the product (in the same condition in which it was sent), the seller notifies TAFA, they refund us and we refund the customer for the original amount.

Note: This is being run on an honor system and we will do our best to resolve any disputes in a sensible way. Our hope is that this trust will not be violated within such a wonderful community.
